Question

Windows 7 laptop won't restart; shut down

Jun 26, 2017 10:12AM PDT

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop which suddenly won't shut down; restart; or allow me to log off. The laptop isn't a year old yet. The only way I can shut it down right now is to push the power button on the computer.

I just did a Windows Update and was prompted to restart the computer. When I clicked on the restart button nothing happened. I have not downloaded or installed any new programs since this problem started about a week ago.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I think the issues are related. Either use System Restore (how is on the web) to when it worked or reload the OS.

Too bad Grif's scans didn't find anything.

Answer
Restart shutdown

Steve, you've been around these forums for long enough to have read over and over backup/backup/backup.

So spin in your backup and move forward.

I make a complete system backup every 15 days just because I realize how little I know about how the innards of these things work and also because stuff happens.

So spin in your backup and move forward? When I figure out what size of external HD to buy I'll probably do that.
