Windows 7 - How do I install an unsigned driver

May 29, 2010 4:47AM PDT

Hi, I have a USB to RS232 cable which comes with a driver instalattion programme. However when trying to install I get a message that the driver is unsigned and the system refuses to let me install it. The driver supplied is: CH341SER.
Can anyone help?
Regards, Kjell

I would love to help here but no make, maker, and model to work with so I can't offer where to get the driver.

Can you supply a link to it's maker's web page. Even a picture of this product may have me answer "use this" as we use these by the dozens at office and factory. Serialio.com makes the one I field today.

Windows 7 - How do I install an unsigned driver

Thank you R. Proffitt for your reply, the problem does not seem to be the driver itself but that Winndows 7 refuses to install it. I have successfully installed the same driver on my Windows XP PC, but even under the option of installing as if an XP OS, Windows 7 still gives message "unsigned driver". The cable is unmarked "USB to RS232", except for Made in China. The problem therefore is how do you get Windows 7 to accept this driver or another doing the same job.

My system is a Dell Studio 15 with full HD screen, i7 processor,6Gb RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I'll try one last time.

Picture please. If not then next time a company like serialio.com where they provide the Windows 7 version for the adapter they offer.

And let me be clear. I didn't answer your question as that question is something I would research on the web. BUT as I have apps that use such things I have the inside track on finding the drivers. Yes, I write the apps that use these things.

So give me a picture, I might recognize it and supply a driver for Windows 7. Give a little help so others can help you out.

That looks like the FTDI or one.

Try the Windows 7 driver from the serialio.com site and this one.

FTDI is at http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm

Again, I'm sorry about the back and forth but I'm just someone that uses dozens if not hundreds and more of these things. One rather "fun" rig has 16 of these devices. You can imagine my app is rather busy on that one.
