Question

Windows 7 host, Virtual box with ubuntu as guest

Jan 4, 2016 3:25AM PST

Greetings:
I want to install Virtual box with Linux as guest on my laptop with windows 7 ultimate.
I have almost 2GB Ram.
I have to consider at least 512MB for ubuntu.
Is this a locked memory? in other words, even when I do not use VB with linux as guest , could host system use complete 2GB RAM?
also when I use both host(windows 7 ultimate) and guest(ubuntu), could I add to virtual memory to prevent the machine runs slow?
Is it ok to install VB (ubuntu as guest) on a machine that has only 2GB RAM?
thanks ahead
Kian William

I don't think it's a good idea, but since both Virtual box and Ubuntu are free, why not try? Please tell the results.

Answer
You need 4GB to pull that off

You might be able to install Lubuntu instead, smaller RAM requirement than Ubuntu. If that fails, then Puppy Linux.

Ram upgrade
Jan 11, 2016 3:35AM PST

Ubuntu has worked well so far, I assigned 512mb Ram for it.
As you know, I installed it on Virtual Box, the host is windows 7, and this amount of Ram was advised on Virtual Box itself.
Once I upgrade my laptop to 4gb Ram, is there any side effects on other parts?
