Windows 7 Gadgets Disappear

Sep 1, 2014 12:28PM PDT

I know that Microsoft discontinued gadgets but for some reason my Clock and CPU gadgets won't work anymore.

The clock gadget cannot be dragged onto the desktop and the CPU gadget loses its icon when I put that on the desktop.

I suspect the Advanced System Care cleaner is the culprit but I had no luck when I tried to restore the cleanings, nor when I used System Restore.

Is there anywhere on the internet that has these gadget files so I can restore them?

Advanced System Care

Yes, we get a lot of help requests after registry cleaning with that and IOBit. Lesson? Stop doing that?

Fix? Sorry but ASC owns this one.

Apps for Windows 7?
Sep 2, 2014 2:13PM PDT

I thought the only apps were for Windows 8. I like W7 Ultimate that I'm using. I might not upgrade until Windows 10.

They Sure Do

I'll stick with the Registry Mechanic I've used for years. It's discontinued but it's never hurt anything on my system.

Sounds Like It

They described the problems my gadgets have. Especially the Clock and the Weather. The CPU doesn't show the dials and the Clock just refuses to paste to the desktop. So maybe the ASC cleaner isn't the culprit after all but the IE 11 is.

Nails It.

Someone posted that the monitor needs to be adjusted so the type stays at 100%. Mine was set at 105%. Now the gadgets all work. Maybe it wasn't Advanced System Care after all.

Regardless

Regardless, ASC and any other registry cleaner, should be excised from your system immediately. Best case scenario, they do absolutely nothing but assuage your obsessive-compusive tendencies. Worst case is they leave you with the digital equivalent of a smoking ruin that was once a working OS. Leave the registry alone, it doesn't need cleaning, fixing or whatever other patently false claims made by people who peddle those snake oil programs come up with.
