Windows 7 + firewire + Sony TRV 950 problem

Jun 19, 2009 12:46AM PDT

Hi all,

Im new to both video and this forum so please be gentle Happy.

I borrowed from a friend of mine a Sony DCR TRV950 camera and shot some tape with it. I wish to transfer it to my PC but the firewire link doesnt seem to work

My PC is relatively new and it came with a FIREWIRE card (?) installed at the behind panel. It is a bit sreange as it has a small (4/4) IEEE connector and next to it a larger one but this larger is NOT a (4/6) IEEE connector but rather something else. Inside of a pc, smaller one goes directly to the edge of the motherboard and the bigger one is connected with the same cable as HDDs are nowdays (SATA I think)

1. So, I plug my Sony TRV 950 in,
2. put it into VCR mode and nothing happens.
3. Windows shows no messages, no cameras....
4. I open Adobe Premiere Pro CS4,
5. go to CAPTURE and all I get is "Device offline" message.

What am I doing wrong? On the camera display (blue, before the footage starts rolling) there is a sign saying "DV IN" whatever that may be.... do I need to switch it to DV OUT? And if so, where do I do it? Do I need aditional drivers for my Sony? I tried googleing but nothing to be found Sad. Win 7 beta as my Operating System.

Cheers and thank you all a bunch!

P.S. Here is what my device manager looks like in Win 7
