Question

Windows 7 dual boot problem

Feb 29, 2016 5:07AM PST

I have had a dual boot system for a few months which until now has worked fine.
For some reason Windows 7 which is on a separate drive to Windows 10 will not now boot, this has happened without any changes to my computer.
I can boot into the OS in safe mode but can't figure what to do to solve the problem.
Any suggestions?

Answer
Take a look at EasyBCD now that they support 10.

May cost a little but may be worth it over a reinstall.

I have easy bcd installed in Windows 10, I've tried fiddling with the settings a little but made no difference.

Time to ask them directly.

Dual Boot repair is not always do this or that as folk come up with many solutions to how they got the dual boot working in the first place. I can't know your system.

May have to do over?

legit install

If win10 was an upgrade and the installed win7 was used to justify the upgrade, then it is an illegal install. If that is the case, maybe it was caught by microsoft

If it is a legit install, then when in safemode, try restoring to a previously saved restore point prior to when the problem started.

Legit install

Windows 7 is legit, I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO onto a USB stick in order to install onto a separate hard drive. This worked well for a couple of months as a dual boot. I looked for a restore point in Windows 7 but none exist.
