Windows 7 doesn't recognize DVD-RW discs

I recently installed W7 (32 bit) on my Acer Aspire 9410-2597 laptop, and haven't been able to burn DVDs since. At first, it wouldn't recognize my TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-L632D (ac00) drive unless I had an OEM disc in- which it reads just fine. Then I read about having to uninstall quicktime/itunes. Once I uninstalled them, W7 now recognizes that I have a drive but keeps telling me I either don't have a disc in, the disc is bad, or that it's the wrong kind of disc. I ran Microsoft's Fix It ( which allowed W7 to recognize that there is a disc in the tray. Sometimes it will pop up a window to burn a DVD then it gives me a list of all the discs it finds acceptable, one of which is the same kind (DVD-RW) I currently have in it. This is one of the blank discs from the same stack I used when I had Vista. And yes, I have tried several of the blank discs, so the individual disc is not the problem. And, there are no further firmware updates for the drive.

I would appreciate any help I can get. I am also having an issue with W7 saying it can't back up to my Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus because it's is corrupt, which I know it isn't, but I'll repost for that.

Other programs aren't working either

Thank you for trying to help me, I appreciate it. I downloaded and tried to use both Burn4free and Tiny Burn. Neither one worked. I got the error message "WRITER ERROR [NOT READY (48,17)]" from Burn4free and Tiny Burn said: "Operation Failed" and "Failed to create disc image"

It worked fine on Vista and works fine for reading OEM discs. I'm really frustrated.

Thanks for trying to help!

My hp d4999t did that too.

In my machine's case it was "one more thing" to install. Windows 7 while pretty good still TAXES us to find install plans, drivers and for this one, one more thing.

I will not write at length about this but supply a google about it.

No CD/DVD recording worked until I installed that last item.

Just something I noticed.

I had a 20 pkg of minus dvd/rw disc.

Successfully burned about 15 of them.

Then the machine refused to recognize any more....even the disc that I had already burned.

Popped in a plus dvd/rw disc and all is well.

The unit will recognize all types of cd media and all types of dvd media.....except minus dvd/rw.

Some day I get around to swapping out the unit.
