Windows 7 Does not install properly

by kmassing / August 25, 2011 4:04 AM PDT

Hi All,
I am try ing to install windows 7 on my HP m8200n desktop pc. It will go through the loading process and it goes through all the steps until it finishes and restarts and then I get a blue and white diagonal striped screen. I do a forced shut down and restart and get a message that says windows installation cannot proceed to restart the computer and restart the installation. I have went through this 6 times with the same result. Please someone help. I cannot do a restore either.

Bad news I fear.

I went to the HP site and found almost no drivers for this machine for Windows 7.

However I did read "MCP61PM-HM Motherboard BIOS Update2008-08-04
, Version:5.27, 1.36MMCP61PM-HM
Motherboard BIOS update resolves issue with systems with 4GB RAM not
waking up from S3 mode and updates AGESA to version 2.08.15"

I'd give the latest BIOS a try and then try again. BE SURE TO NOT HAVE ANY USB THINGS PLUGGED IN AS THIS CAN CAUSE GRIEF AS THE DRIVERS HAVE NOT BEEN INSTALLED YET.

And since HP does not have the drivers you have to search for them on your own.

Not much new here. Same old issues.

Its definitely a system issue. If you arent comfortable with flashing your bios and writting your own drivers or using drivers written by others (irc) then i would stick to xp until you can upgrade.

We wanted to install 7 but it would not work. Even with drivers from others that have tried and more.
It posts fine. Looks like the choice is Vista or XP. XP it is in this case.

I have messed around with old computer for a long time...
by LivingForTheFuture / August 28, 2011 1:58 PM PDT

First off old computers are like older women, no matter how much you want to upgrade them they are stuck in there way's or time has taken its toll on old girl. I believe this is a problem with the processor not being 64 bit and is the problem why the operating system doesn't work, try installing win 7 32 bit, You will still need to get drivers, usually sound driver doesn't work, just download xp sound driver and make sure to run the program in compatibility for xp. Hope this helps, and good luck.
