Question

Windows 7 disc cleanup

Mar 29, 2020 4:51AM PDT

I, like many others I have found, stupidly used this option, when I just should have just deleted all my temp and download files.
Now I get the Windows update as far as 35% and nothing happens.
I have managed to get back into the computer and used “fix my computer” which then gave me “System recovery options”
Where do I go from here and what do I have to do to get back this way.?
I do not have a Windows 7 disc here.
Would be very grateful and much appreciated for some help

windows not updating anymore. you can do a system restore to a previously saved restore point prior to when the problem started.

I was given a old Asus laptop that had win 7. It had been in a closet for over a year. When I booted it up with internet connection it started to down load updates to 7. Almost 300 updates down loaded and installed . some updates set at 25%, some at 75%, for hours. took almost 2 full days to get all the updates down loaded and installed.

one thing

one thing, microsoft has always been slow with updates. if you had 300 updates and they were installed in two days, imo, that was fast. Updates always seem to stall at times when they are behind. . The last computer I put win 10 on took over a day because of stalling downloads. it just happens and there really is nothing you can do.

No Windows 7 disc?

You're going to want to fix that. This issue is slamming thousands that didn't get ready for their PC problems. We know that backups of the entire system are required yet few do. So that leaves us with having to reinstall the OS and then their files from backups if they have such.

I'm starting to see some install Linux which has Chrome and LibreOffice, ThunderBird (email) and other apps so for many there's a free exit.

You can try to get a Windows 7 disc download from Microsoft from them.

I searched and read many things on this subject. One said to restart in safe mode, then leave it to just grind away at 35%. II did that and after an hour or so it rebooted in safe mode. I then opened a search engine in “safe” mode but had no internet connection. As I knew I had all my system running in “safe”, I then took the gamble of “Restart”. I am happy to say that I now have my computer working again as normal. The advice of one, which was to restart in safe, then just leave it to do it’s own thing, was magic

Should be a full backup and obtaining your copy of W7 before the next time.
