Windows 7 Digital Download Availability

by cfoxtrot / October 22, 2009 5:19 AM PDT

Besides the Microsoft Store (online), does anybody knows where can I buy Windows 7 as a digital download?. I've tried Amazon, BestBuy, TigerDirect and they don't seem to be offering it as such...

Probably nowhere

Probably nowhere. Microsoft is likely going to reserve the download rights for themselves only.

Also, I'll just say that you should be very wary of buying anything from TigerDirect. They have a less than stellar reputation, and their parent company is known for doing some shady, borderline legal, things.

cfoxtrot -

Would strongly suggest you get the disk itself and not rely on a download.

Windows 7 is not a small program. It is LARGE. Many gigabytes. The typical download will take hours. What are the chances a little bit or byte might get dropped during the download?

Haste makes waste. Win7 will be round for a few years. Will 1-2 days make a difference? Get the actual disk. You may need it more than once for a reinstall, especially if you haven't used it's "Mother", Vista. Believe me, jumping from and earlier OS like XP to Win7 will test your patience. There are BIG differences between the two. With patience and time, I'm sure you'll fall in love with Win7.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

Thanks to both of you for your helpful advice... Will likely get the disk, then... And definitely will stay away from TigerDirect...
