Windows 7 Background Update Problem

Jan 24, 2020 4:32AM PST

Since the final Windows 7 update (a few days ago), my Windows background reverted to a default, and I cannot reapply my chosen image. Also I could not mute the Windows sounds.
The only way I have found to fix the problem is to Restore an old version of Windows 7 (and selected "do not allow automatic updates").

Sounds right.

Some of the last security updates did break some themes so my answer is you did the right thing to fix it.

As there will be no more W7 updates, you can leave it as you set it and keep up with full backups in case of a hard crash or full blown other issue.

Sounds right, but...

Hmm, thanks, but things are not so simple after all. The latest version of Windows 7 keeps elbowing my older Restored version out of the way, reinstalling itself and bringing the original problem back. How can I force my laptop to ignore the existence of later versions of Windows 7? (Maybe I can delete the newest updates somehow?)

Something's not right,

Windows 7 does have an off setting for Windows Updates. I'd do more research about that as it appears what you are doing isn't getting the job done.
