Windows 7 and Power Point file opens Read Only

Sep 19, 2010 1:41PM PDT

Just purchased new computer with Windows 7. On line Power Point files open as Read Only. Cannot print or save them. With Windows XP the same Power Point files open perfectly. I can print, save, or edit. What Windows 7 setting am I missing? Thanks, Bill

When the power point files were transferred via CDR. Fix? Uncheck the read only flag on the files.

In closing be sure to spare no details about what version of PowerPoint and if you installed the service pack for office.

Windows 7 Read Only on PPT file

Bob, thank you for the quick response. I have Office 2003 with no compatibility or service pack added. I assumed Win 7 would have all the latest releases. I will check the "Read Only" attribute tomorrow. Cheers, Bill

Power Point comes in two flavours

there is the full featured paid for version that comes as part of the Microsoft Office Suite requiring activation and licence keys and then there is Power Point Viewer which is a free downloadable version that enables you to open and view slide shows and presentations that have been prepared by the full version.
Saving a presentation or a slide show file should not be a problem using PP Viewer but printing could be difficult because you would need to extract individual pictures from the complete compilation and that would mean pulling it apart which comes close to editing or creating which can only be done with the paid for version.
Which version do you have?

Win 7 Read Only Files

PEACOX, thank you for the reply. I am aware of the PPT version differences. These are all full version, activitated Office 2003 products. Realize, the Read Only, file in question opens fine with the same Office Suite product using the Win XP O/S. Cheers, Bill

PEACOX, thanks. The 2003 compatibility pack fixed the problem. Have a great day. Bill
