Windows 7 and Game Downloads really slow

Jan 3, 2010 4:04AM PST

I have a Dell XP and recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.
Everything was working okay, but just recently all of my downloads are running at a snails pace- @44KB/sec.

I have scanned for viruses, spyware, etc..... nothing.

Internet is running fine. Videos come across quickly.

Can anyone help me understand why my downloads are suddenly running so slow. I am using Cable.

Any torrent use?

Sometimes the torrent user downloads something copyrighted and it gets noticed. There are some that attack such IP addresses with denial of service attacks. Your story is light.

I guess I don't understand "torrent use". Please explain.

Other titles.

Limewire, frostwire, bearshare, P2P, and likely some other dozen titles. Unless you can share what and how you are downloading then I can't check or comment why it might do that.

Are you sharing your connection?
Jan 3, 2010 4:44AM PST

Just last week another slow connection and we found the wifi router was set to WEP. Sure enough someone was using their connection.

The fix was simple. Change to WPA.

Tell about your connection and if your wifi is WEP or no security.

I have a Dell XPS410 connected directly to cable using a Linksys etherfast cable/dsl router.

No sharing.

Make and model please.

Also, look for overlapping protection software. "It worked before" is not going to help here. Updates to firewalls, antivirus and all the other stuff means we can't use that info.

The clue as to why it is slow is not in you posts yet. While I could guess I will guess badly. Notice my wifi guess. Since I didn't know about your all wired setup I was left with guessing one of the usuals and it didn't pan out.

Tell more.

Sorry, I am very new to using forums like this. Obviously, I am not a very "Tech Savy" user.

Thanks for you time.

I will look for another solution where I am able to communicate more effectively.
