Windows 7 and Firefox

Dec 14, 2009 7:05PM PST

I have a new laptop Toshiba Qosmio http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/Qosmio/X500 and it has Windows 7 Home Premium.

I downloaded like 10 times the program and deleted each time after it kept on crashing. I downloaded either from the Mozilla page or the download.com. Each time it won't let me in and shows a Crash Report. I noticed most people have success with FF and W7. I have tried everything. I want to be able to download FF onto the laptop as its a present for Xmas.

Is there something wrong with the laptop or am I missing something? I never had problems downloading any program before. Or should I wait until FF is W7 ready? Any tips?

Please help me.

Thanks in advance,
GW

Bad advice

Bad advice, at least the registry cleaning part. Registry cleaners have a tendency to cause more problems than they ever solve.

To the original poster, I would suspect the laptop may have bad RAM. Download something like memtest86 and see what happens.

No real ideas, but can you clarify one thing?

You mention "Download then it crashes", Do you mean download the setup file, then running that manually, or do you mean download and run automatically?

1] The browser you are using to download the Firefox setup file downloads it to some temporary location. When the file is downloaded you then navigate to that file, double click it, (or single click, depending on your setup), to run it. The file then begins its installation procedure but crashes.

2] The browser you are using is set to "Download and Run" files automatically. It downloads the Firefox installation file and when the download is complete it runs the file immediately. This starts the install process, but that then crashes.

Which method do you use, and which browser do you use to download the Firefox setup file?

This is the method I use

I click to download, and then I click run. I click on the recommended installation. When the installation is finished an icon appears on the desktop. I double click on the Mozilla icon and then the crash report appears. The browser never opens.

Try it the other way

Try downloading the file and "Saving" to some temporary location, eg your Desktop.

Then when the file is completely downloaded, open it from there to run it.

We recommend saving all files instead of running them directly from a download. That way you can scan the file with your anti-virus before running it.

Which browser are you using to download this file?

I have tried both

3.0 and 3.5 and they both crash. Both work in Safe mode.

I am totally out of ideas.
