Question

Windows 7 Aero not functioning properly.

Jan 28, 2015 9:26AM PST

Hey there folks! I thought I could put up with it but I can't take it anymore, Windows Aero hasn't been functioning properly at all for the past 3 weeks or so and has some very strange visual bugs like this and has increasingly gotten stranger and more irritating.

Specs:
GTX 970 4GB
8GB of DDR3 RAM
AMD FX-8320 8 Core
MS Windows 8 home Premium 64-bit-SP1.

And yes, I have tried to reinstall display drivers multiple times which did nothing in particular, Tried running Malwarebytes, all the random stuff Google suggested and nothing. It should be noted that I recently upgraded to a 970 without uninstalling drivers first like a dummy, but I'm fairly certain this happened before the upgrade.

Clarification Request
What happens?

1. Safe Mode?
2. In some live CD/DVD/USB no install other OS like Linux Mint?
3. It does not look like an Aero issue.
4. Me too. I rarely clean off the old drivers. But if you must, here's a link about:

1. nope
2. I have 3 SSDs and windows is installed on my primary, nothing more.
3. Yeah that one was a bit out of the ordinary, but I can't enable Aero in any way at all and I miss it's features.
4. Looked promising and I tried it, but no dice. Think it freed up some space, though. Which is a nice.

Item 2 is not about installing another OS.

That sounds like a lot of work, I am willing to try but what exactly would I be doing when I do try out linux? The visual bug I originally posted was pretty rare by the way.

If it's rare, then why not call it an annoyance?

Rare would be once a week so annoying but not a total failure. I don't know if you remember Windows 9x days where we'd reboot a few times a day.

Look, forget about the visual bug.

Just forget about the visual bug, I don't really care all that much if it only happens once every few days. What I would like is Aero to start working again one way or another if at all possible. I want to know whether or not it is a hardware issue, the steps needed to get there and how to fix it, all that jazz.

Sorry but

"Windows Aero hasn't been functioning properly" is not the same as "Aero to start working again".

Those are different problems. You can find tomes on the web about "How to enable Aero in Windows 7" but your screen capture did not point me to an Aero issue but driver or failed hardware. Since you dismissed the test I use I don't know what else to do but tell you to start changing hardware.

http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-Responds-GTX-970-35GB-Memory-Issue is interesting in that it shows this new video card looks to have issues. It's a very new card so you are essentially beta testing for them.
