Windows 7 (64) Crashes Transferrring USB to USB

Jan 4, 2010 1:03AM PST

Can anybody help with this problem. I store my music on an external hard drive (Seagate FreeAgent Desktop) and when I try to load any of my digital music players, my computer crashes. It works fine if I have music on my internal hard drive.

I'm on a HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook with Windows 7(64-bit). I have tried to update all my drivers but HP doesn't have a BIOS/driver update for Windows 7.

By the way, this happens with any USB device. I loaded some music on a flash drive just to test to see if I could isolate the problem to my external hard drive and it crashed with the flash drive.

Anyone had a similar problem or have an idea on what to try? Or do you think I just have to wait for HP to post Windows 7 updates to BIOS/chipset drivers?

Thanks!

The dv9700 is from a known series with issues.

Given the dv9000 series issues and that no update was available, go back to the supplied OS and skulk about it but have a working machine.

Be sure your model is not on the recall list and even if it is not I'm still finding many failing models that were not on the list.
