Windows 2000 wont boot From CD

Aug 12, 2007 11:47PM PDT

Ive got my Windows 2000 Installation CD (backup) that Im trying to use as a boot disk to fix my home computer.

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6620_102-0.html?forumID=9&threadID=258888&messageID=2554068#2554068 ).

Ive gone to the BIOS and changed the priorities so that it boots the CD first (before hardrive) but then it just says DISK BOOT FAILURE. I dont hear the CD drive working that much and it says the same thing if the CD drive is empty. Do you know what could be going wrong here

Try...

1. A copy of your Windows 2000 original CD.

2. Another drive.

Now some won't try item 2. I can't imagine why.

By another drive, you mean, putting another hardrive into the computer.

I tried using a Floppy boot, but it wouldnt give me access to the hardrive that needed fixing.

Sorry.

I'd try replacing the drive that would not boot the 2000 CD.

It's a common failure but some owners seem to not want to fix this.

I tried it using the DVD drive

I tried booting from the DVD drive and I got the same problem. I've got other computers so I tried using some other Windows CD but it didnt boot either. Exact same message. I also took some random CD and put it in, exact same message.

Test your CDs in a working machine.

Then take that drive and CD to the non-boot machine and retry.

Again, it's an area that people seem to have difficulty with. They don't want to fix the hardware.
