Windows 2000 Professional OEM CD

I bought an OEM CD complete with manual and CD Key. I am attempting to install this operating system onto a Compaq Presario 5000 computer that has Windows ME on it. The CD works... I get through the installation process... The computer reboots... Then it has two options that appear on screen, one which is to boot from disk and the other to boot from CD... I choose boot from disk... And Windows 2000 Pro. Setup... Then an error message appears that the product is to be installed only on a computer manufactured/licenced by Gateway Inc. and system is "halted". Is there any way around this so I can complete installation? I can reboot to my original Windows ME like I am now.

Sorry to read that.

Ask for a refund since the OEM CD and license is invalid.

Where did you purchase this OEM?

In reply to: Windows 2000 Professional OEM CD

If you had Windows 98 or any Windows other than XP. you could purchase XPor XP PRO upgrade OEM. Why Windows 2000?I would send it back pay alittle more and get XP Pro
I had XP Pro installed over Windows 98 with no problems.
