Windows 2000 HT new install support.

Nov 28, 2004 12:42AM PST

This is at least the twentieth time that I've installed Windows 2000 on a P4 HT processor and the Windows 2000 installer gaffed the install and didn't enable the HT features. It's fairly easy to fix, but some may not like the procedure. The benefits are clear to me so here's the article you'll want to read -> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=246236

Change from uniprocessor to multiprocessor ACPI HAL and see if you get two CPUs in the Task Manager.

The second speed boost I'm seeing is that after we install the motherboard support package, take a trip to the IDE controllers, set them all to PIO, OK your way out (no reboot) and then go back in and change to DMA. Then reboot.

Between these two I was able to figure out why some have reported the HT CPUs were slower with HT enabled than with it disabled. It was the incorrect HAL...
