Windows 2000 Error after WinCleaner

Nov 9, 2004 12:07PM PST

I'm running Windows ME and Office 2000. I cleaned up my PC with Business Logic Corp's "WinCleaner Complete PC Care" software, and installed their antivirus package. The PC seemed to be running better, but now at start up I get this error message:

InstallOffice2K: A DLL initialization routine failed.

Also, Word, Power Point, and Excel generate error messages, all like this one when I open a Word document: Winword has caused an error in <unknown>. Winword will now close.

Interestingly, I can continue to work in the document and save new material if I do not hit the close button in the error dialogue box. If I do hit the button, the document closes up.

Any advise on this is greatly appreciated. I've got my Office 2000 disk, but I'm not sure what to open to reinstall the Word and other software. I didn't see anywhere at Microsoft to download what I need either.

Possibly (but not sure) WinCleaner Complete PC Care was somewhat overcomplete. Most good cleaning programs have a way to undo the clean if it causes problems, so try that. And what happens if you disable or install their antivirus?

Then contact Business Logic or look at their website if they know the problem and have a solution. You can't be the only one of their users with Office 2000.

You can run setup from the Office 2000 CD to repair or uninstall and reinstall Office. It should autorun, but if it doesn't do it from Windows Explorer or My Computer. But depending on the cause of your problems, this might not offer the solution.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks, Kees.

I have written Business Logic. Hope to hear something this week. I agree that it appears the wincleaner program removed something Windows requires.

I will try the other steps you recommend as well.

Thanks,
