Question

Windows 10 taskbar problem

Aug 22, 2015 9:53PM PDT

Taskbar won't autohide. I discovered a program icon in the system tray, that I can exit, and the taskbar will autohide. I uninstalled the program, but the icon keeps reappearing in the system tray, and the taskbar again won't hide. I ran CCleaner, and PC DeCrapifier, but the program in not listed, so I can't remove it. Upon computer restart, the Icon returns to the system tray, and the taskbar won't hide. The program Icon is not listed in the settings for the notifications. I'm can't find the solution to this issue.

I have set the taskbar property to autohide - still sits at bottom of screen in both tablet and reg modes.

With that icon active, run taskmanager, make a note the list of all running processes (sort alfabetically), then exit the program and see what process is no longer listed in task manager. Then you know what it is. Might be the first step to removing it.

Processes listed
Aug 23, 2015 1:00PM PDT

Thanks Kees - There are two Processes listed for the program. I guess they didn't get uninstalled, with the program. I would like to get rid of them completely, rather than simply disabling them. I've located the program file, but can't delete it. Error message says I must Admin. rights? but I am the only user acct., and I'm listed as Administrator.

Several options, but first follow some recommended system management principles and make a new spare admin account, just in case this one gets corrupted. Don't give it a password, or be sure to write it down and save it.

Option 1: End the process and run Windows Explorer (or the command prompt, if you know that) in administrator mode and try to delete it.
Option 2: End the process and rename the folder it resides in.
Option 3: Go into MSCONFIG>Startup tab or download Starter from www.sysinternals.com, find where it is started at boot time and disable it
Option 4: Download and burn (or order) a Linux disk, boot from it and delete that program.

I was able to rename the file, and upon restart, the icons no longer appear in the notification area of the taskbar, and the taskbar now autohides. Thanks Kees!
