Question

Windows 10 Stuttering

Aug 20, 2018 3:03PM PDT

Hello,

Recently my PC has begun stuttering in performance with sudden stops in output (audio/video).

I have run a Speccy analysis which can be found here.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Louis

Thanks for the Speccy.

But there's a lot going on software wise that I can't guess why it's running.

Some may be deprecated such as https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/protocol-specifications/deprecated-protocols so is there any chance you can clean up this PC?

Be sure to turn the following off right now: https://www.howtogeek.com/224981/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-uploading-updates-to-other-pcs-over-the-internet/ Why? Looking at the rather high number of SVCHOST entries. Be sure to close Chrome as well.

How about Skype? https://www.howtogeek.com/284864/how-to-stop-skype-from-running-in-the-background-on-windows-10/

What else can you trim?

I'll be back with more but it will take awhile since there's a lot of custom items there.

I'll treat your four points separately;

Deprecated items: Not sure what you meant here, I've cleaned up some old software I wasn't using anymore, but have a feeling you mean drivers.

W10 Updates: I already looked into the issue from a different stuttering thread, didn't resolve it.

Skype: I turned it off, did notice I had 2 versions installed which is redundant either way. Stutter remained.

Trimming: I've trimmed as much (Disk Clean-up) as virtually possible.

Take your time, I'm eager to hear more.

Is the VPN in use?

There's a lot of overhead there. Try it without that.

Hm

Not sure what you meant here. What bothers me is that it hasn't occurred until I went through a Windows Update.

Did that Windows Update happen to update drivers? We recommend to turn that off. Google WINDOWS 10 DISABLE DRIVER UPDATE on how to do it.
Then from Device Manager, do a driver rollback for the updated drivers and see if that helps.

See Kees note about drivers.

And VPN can be a source. I'd go without (total uninstall) for a test run if Kees note about drivers doesn't fix it.

Get an app that will display cpu temp in real time.

Run your stuff and watch the temp.
