Question

windows 10 screen flashes every 30 seconds

Aug 4, 2015 9:47AM PDT

Windows 10 installed beautifully and seems to run fast on my Toshiba laptop but the screen flashes every 30 seconds. When it flashes it looks like a small window opens and closes immediately. Any dialogue box open is reset, and there is disk activity. 2 tasks pop up to the top of the list in Task Manager: dwm.exe and explorer.exe. It happens all the time, whether there are any applications open or not.
Very annoying! anyone else experience this or have a solution?

I hadn't seen anything labeled Windows 10 on the Toshiba site, but I will try the updates that are there and post the results. I really appreciate your response.

3 year old Toshiba laptop is not compatibe with Windows 10?
Aug 7, 2015 1:13PM PDT

After installing all updates available for my 3 year old Toshiba Portege Z835 laptop, I had to uninstall Windows 10 to get rid of the screen flashes every 30 seconds.

Then it's time to call Toshiba's customer service and ask if they happen to know a solution. I assume you updated from the original Windows 7. 32 or 64 bit?

The Z835 is a series.

Without full model numbers folk can't look deeper into this.

Toshiba Portege Z835-P330, Part No. PT224U-001001
Aug 8, 2015 3:10PM PDT

Original Windows 7 Home Premium (fully up to date) upgraded to Windows 10 Home. Has 4GB RAM and an upgraded 256GB BP4 mSATA SSD.

Thanks for all inputs. I will call Toshiba Tech Support when I return from a trip next week, but since this model is not listed as compatible on their web site link below, I suspect they wont have much to say.

Something newsworthy just came up.

It appears Microsoft goofed it's rollup update and issued a bum video driver. It's not you, it's Microsoft. Try again later appears to be the answer today.

I don't understand

Thanks for your response, but I don't understand what "check and fix the virus and adware " means. I have Microsoft Security Essentials running and it reports no problems. I am religious about not installing any add ins to Internet Explorer or allowing any adware to install on my laptop. Please elaborate on what you did to solve the problem.
