Question

Windows 10/ renaming my private network

Aug 22, 2015 11:43PM PDT

I had a tech update my laptop from windows 8 to windows 10.. However, when he named our private network, he misspelled my last name.. Can someone please tell me how to edit that so I can correct the spelling. I found where I can "re-name" the Wi-Fi connection, but that is not what I want, I just don't like clicking on my "internet access" link and seeing my name misspelled. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's cunclear to me, what the tech did, what the "internet access" link is, what you see when you cliick it.
So why not ask him to come and correct it? Or - if he prefers - to send a detailed instruction by mail or instruct you by phone while doing it.

And that's not all that's unclear.

- The windows 10 update is - technically speaking - an update. It should keep all settings. So it's strange the had to (re)define the private network.
- There's no relation between "internet access" and a local network. You can access Internet without reference to a local network, and the other way around (if done via a router).

Maybe your tech can use remote support to fix this from his office, without even visiting your home. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-remote-assistance-faq#1TC=windows-7 tells about it, but I don't know if this feature survived into Windows 10. But your tech surely knows.
