Resolved Question

Windows 10 no sound

Feb 12, 2016 7:56PM PST

I have recently installed Windows 10 on my HP Omni 220 PC.

Sadly, there is no sound. The web has many suggestions, and I have tried those which are not too technical. When it comes to registry changes, I leave well alone.

I keep getting a message which says "AMD HDMI output not plugged in". I don't have any external connections. I'm just looking for sound on the computer.

This appears to have been a problem with W10 for many months, yet Microsoft are still churning this out.

Since Microsoft doesn't fetch or install drivers

And hasn't since the beginning of Windows, I think we need to re-think the idea this is a Windows issue. That is, the PC maker issues drivers, not Microsoft. If you want to think it's a Windows issue, then you will, as far as I can tell never see a fix.

Get back to HP and go over drivers and apps needed for this model.

Sound restored
Feb 17, 2016 3:32AM PST

I found out a day or two later that Skype had also lost sound. I followed advice given and searched HP for a solution. I removed both sound drivers which were showing up, and then rebooted the system. I had sound on the HP computer!.

Skype was slightly different, but also fixed by working through Skype.
