Is there a way to manually check for new mail in windows 10 mail? There is no send/receive button as in all other mail programs.

So far, no.

"There is no longer a send/receive option to force mail delivery."

There's also some glaring missing features like exporting contacts. I'd forget this app. Go get Thunderbird now so you can have it all, PLUS be ready to move your stuff to other PCs and even OSes.

Apart from Outlook Express and MS Outlook, both a success, Microsoft has a less than stellar history with mail clients. Both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail were rather bad, and the Windows 10 mail app is not much better.
Most third-party mail programs (like Eudora, Pegasus, Incredimail), although once popular, slowly died for some reason, and that leaves Thunderbird as the program of choice for quite a few people.

Webbased mail is in another (lower) league. I find both OWA (Outlook Web Access) and outlook.com tolerable, but inferior to a mail client for daily use.
