Question

Windows 10: Insert Disc into drive F: Not reading cd/dvd

May 18, 2016 6:08PM PDT

Hi and thanks for your help,

I've tried various things, googling things, I am a beginner in computer tech literacy. My windows 10 is not playing or reading my F drive cd's and dvd's. I've read you have to BUY an app to play dvds, but its not reading my cds either in WMP, or VLC player. My drive manager says my drive is fine.

I already tried this method: "Try removing it from Windows via removing its driver and let Windows detect it again.

Right click start choose Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives. double click the drive. Go to the Driver tab, click Uninstall. That removes the current driver for the device, reboot and hopefully the drive now works."

Thanks for your comments

This sounds like the old drive failure.

store bought or home made. Sometimes CD/DVD readers have issues reading Disks created on other drives.

Drive manager doesn't say the drive is OK. It only says it sees no problem with the drivers. But it can very well be that the drive has gone south and you need to replace it.
It's not very difficult, but if you are a "beginner in computer tech literacy" you might prefer to have it done by a repair shop or to buy an external drive that you can connect via USB. Your choice.
