Question

Windows 10 Icon

Nov 27, 2015 11:00AM PST

I have had the Windows 10 icon for upgrade in the lower right corner for a couple months.
I have too many programs on my Windows 7 computer that I don't think will work with Windows 10 so will not be upgrading.
How do I get rid of that icon?
I have Windows 10 on my laptop and really like it, but don't want it on my main computer.
Thank you.

Answer
You can uninstall KB3035583, then mark it hidden...

...and that will work for a few weeks. It will come back though in spite of having done that, so what I did was to boot a Linux disc, then search for all copies of gwx.exe and rename them to gwx.exe.bs. There are 4 or more copies of gwx.exe that have to be renamed.
`
Good luck.

I will do as you suggested.
It normally wouldn't bother me and I would just ignore it, but yesterday my neighbors Granddaughter was here and clicked on the icon and started downloading Windows 10.
Caught it just in time.

Create a second limited windows profile just for the grandkids and limit what it can do. Make sure it's NOT and admin account.

That did the trick.

Removed that KB and icon is gone.
Thanks again.
