Question

Windows 10 defrag

Mar 6, 2016 6:12PM PST

The defrag function allows me to optimize my C drive and Recovery file, but there's another file below that called \\?\Volume{51bf4676 and so on. Is the last file just a save file for recovery?

Answer
Unsure what the issue here is.

Today Windows 10 has set this to be on automatic so there's rarely a need to look at it again. What's up here? What are you seeing that you need to look at this file?

Unknown drive found during defrag - what is it?

I've never seen another drive like that before. Was it created by something other than windows?

Since it's your PC I can't know that.

But the question here seems to lead to more questions. There are random number files that are temp files. I usually clean them up with disk cleanup.

Okay. Thanks. Makes sense. I saw the same thing on another Win10 computer.
