Windows 10 Creators Update

May 2, 2017 11:12AM PDT

I updated my laptop myself without waiting for Microsoft to notify me when to download the Creators Update. I liked the idea of the Night light and that is one of the new features I set right away. About a week later the screen flickered and then looked as though I placed green cellophane over it. When switching programs which were still visible thru the green they never closed when I exited but remained visible behind a magenta screen. I took it to Best Buy/Geek Squad as that is where I bought it and it was made especially for Best Buy by Asus. Of course it is not under warranty any longer and $432.00 later it was discovered the LCD screen needed replacing. Having no experience with laptop repair I had to ok the replacement. But I started seeing articles about not updating Windows until Microsoft notifies you and am wondering if I created the situation I found myself in with the screen. Have there been any reports of the LCD screen failing after updating?

I Doubt If The Screen Issue Was Caused By The Update

It sounds more like the screen was ready to fail and it just happened to do so shortly after you updated the computer.

Hope this helps.

Answer
If it's a software issue, here's how I test.

I boot up any other OS or tool. Even a reboot to the BIOS (or UEFI) should suffice to see if it's some driver issue.

I've yet to find a way to kill hardware with software today. I'll not get into outer limits here, just run on the mill stuff.

So? No.
