Question

Windows 10 "checking for updates"

Mar 17, 2017 3:23PM PDT

Installing Win 10 on my Win 7 HP laptop. At the end(?) of the installation it is "checking for updates" and does not stop. Can not press 'next' button to move on. Have to hit the X button to stop and Win 10 is not loaded. Hardware requirements are good. More than enough HD space. Help.

I can't recall what I did but I think I denied it access to the internet until the upgrade was complete.

Tried that, but checking for updates still came on. Maybe I am doing this wrong, or maybe trying to upgrade to win 10 is no longer free. I did have Win 10 upgrade on my laptop for maybe a year or so but when it caused this problem (probably because I had the internet connection) , I trashed it and emptied my trash so cannot recover it. I then downloaded Win 10 (I think) and ran that...It created a Media 10 program...that I had to run with the internet on. Once it did what it was supposed to do I killed my internet connection but got the same results. Seems I have to live with Win 7 Premium...unless you know of some way to recover my trashed Win 10 upgrade. Thanks for the help. Pete
