Question

Window security update killed my laptop

Apr 3, 2018 2:35AM PDT

I've searched for anyone having this issue with the new update. I got the normal blue screen choose your language input then I clicked rollback to Windows option. This went round and round a few times without starting up. Now for some reason nothing happens except for the Asus logo coming up and then going black in around 20seconds. I cant even boot to safe mode. Any suggestions???

That's not normal at all. That should appear only when you run Windows setup, not after an update.
My suggestion: tell the whole story.

security update blue screen

If you check other peoples issues with the security update you will see that a blue screen with input language screen is the "Normal" screen that comes up.
My issue is that I followed the steps on screen and now my laptop will not get past the Asus logo screen.
My suggestion wait until you get the update before answering

I don't think it's normal.
Here's one case I found https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d9b2af65-d2c6-4b16-acff-d1bf2aa4ed8b/windows-10-creators-update-fails?forum=win10itprosetup
However, that wasn't for a recent security update, but for the Windows 10 Creators update. Quite a difference.

My latest successful update on Windows 10 was done on March 14, 2018, the cumulative update for version 1709 x64, KB4088776, on both a desktop and a laptop. What security update do I have to wait for before answering again?

In the meantime: try the repair options you get after booting from your Windows 10 install disc or stick (free to make with the MEDIA CREATION TOOL if you don't have it ) or - even better - from the recovery drive you made (recommended to do that after each big version upgrade).

Thanks for that but unfortunately due to my laptop not starting as I stated I cannot boot from my Windows 10 recovery as I cannot access the USB drive or even get to a command prompt.
My laptop only has the Asus logo for less than 20 second then goes to a black screen repeatedly. My PC on the other hand had the blue select input and the option to boot from previous version. It booted with out any issues.

If you can't boot the USB, that's not a Windows issue.

Why? Because Windows isn't running yet. I have encountered folk that didn't know how PCs work and claim the update broke the USB booting. Sorry, but if you can't boot the USB sticks, then Windows has little to do with that.

Now we tackle why USB sticks don't boot. Could be a BIOS setting like FAST BOOT or similar to other causes.
