Resolved Question

Window 7 Classic Menu 23-bit

Nov 22, 2011 5:46AM PST

It all sounds very marvellous, but after (seemingly) successful installation of the 32-bit version on my laptop (French Windows 7), I click on the icon Classic Menu 2010 Manager and (for example) click on Words - nothing happens. Installed on my PC, is the Starter version of MS Office. I have no intention of purchasing the full version, and bemoan the loss of the much more useful MS Office 97 which I used until now. My old faithful XP PC is next to my new one with the 97 version installed: whenever I get problems in Excel or Words, I go back to the old version, which is why I would like to download the Classic Menu on to my new laptop. Can anyone help?

I assume you mean this program: http://www.addintools.com/office2010/standard/index.html
It has nothing to do, however, with Windows 7, only with Office 2010.

This is what it says:

Classic Menu for Office Standard 2010 adds a "Menu" tab between the
"File" tab and "Home" tab in the Ribbon. It allows you to work with
Microsoft Office Standard 2010 as if it were Microsoft Office 2003.

Nothing about clicking on an icon (where) and choosing Word (I assume you mean Word, not Words). Does that menu tab (see the examples on that site) appear in Word? Then it works.

And let me note it says it's designed for use with Office 2010 (the full version). It could very well be that it works with Starter also, but that isn't mentioned. Maybe ask them?
And are you sure you have the 32-bit version of Word (that's the most common one, but not the only one)?

Finally: the ribbon needs some getting used to, but that's not impossible. Maybe just start with it and learn by doing.

Classic Menu
Nov 22, 2011 4:07PM PST

Hello Kees,
<div>Many thanks for
your prompt reply. My answers to your
comments/questions....

Yes, we are discussing the Classic Menu for Office 2010 Starter 32bit 2.25 edition from
addintools.com. I checked my Word and
Excel versions, and they are 32-bit (one is discouraged from using the 64-bit version anyway, as it is not yet
fully developed)..

When I 'instal' the program, as
stated in the pre-blurb an icon appears on my Desktop - Classic Menu 2010 Manager. When I open this, there are 4 tabs visible: Excel, Powerpoint, Word and About. When
I click, for example, on the Word tab, and then on the OK button, the page
disappears, and that's it; nothing else happens.

Sorry, I didn't buy it, I didn't install it and I don't have the user manual and documentation. Not do I know what a pre-blurb is, but that might not be essential.

But on their site I see an FAQ (http://www.addintools.com/documents/faqs/faq-cannot-see-classic-menu.html) with a screenprint of their manager program (that seems to be the program your run) where you have to check the checkbox (and press OK) to activate showing that classic menu you want in Word.

And indeed, if you press OK nothing happens except that it has told Word about your wishes (show the classic menu if that checkbox is checked and don't show it if that checkbox isn't checked). Did you check that checkbox, did you press OK and did you go into Word to see if it works?
