Resolved Question

Windiows 10 major update wiped out my desktop

What happened? I turned on our laptop (which we haven't used in a couple weeks) and it gave me a BLANK desktop. I mean this could take a lot of time to get it back to what it was.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any help in restoring my desktop would be appreciated.

Geez! Try and do the right thing and they "screw you" up.

Very frustrating!!!

Things we backup. I have seen a few blank desktops and so far I only needed to log out and then log in under the old account. Accounts seem to baffle new and old users.

Re: restoring

Since we don't have a backup of your desktop, we can't restore it. We can't even help with that. Since it's your backup, you're the only one who knows how he must restore it and the only one who can do it. Restoring a folder with a few GB at most takes 15 minutes at most. I wouldn't call that "a lot of time".

The curious thing in your story is that it implies that a major update was done while your laptop was turned off. That's strange. That even should be impossible, unless you allowed Windows to wake it up once in a while to do updates. Did you?

Now log in into an (other?) administrator account, and look in your (old) profile in the Users folder for the Desktop folder. Is it really empty?
