Windfall Profits Tax,

Apr 25, 2006 12:03AM PDT

We had this posted the last time gas prices went up, but it is even more valid today. No one in the media or the anti-capitalist Liberals are complainig about the HUGE amount of taxes collected on gasoline that is based on percentages. Should be a congressional investigation into all of those involved.

... isn't going to cut the Federal tax on gas by XO. Sad

Yeah, add more taxes to the equation. That'll bring prices down! Idiots Sad

That'll bring prices down!

The President is going to "freeup" some of the reserve oil ( I think that's what he called it) this will increase the supply and cause the price to drop. By next fall, the summer driving season will be over and things can return to normal. That's his plan.

I wonder if he included the fact hurricane season is coming up and last year a lot of the problems with the price of oil/gas, was caused by hurricanes.

So you're saying

hurricanes have caused higher costs then the President has caused?

No

I questioning how the President knows, or why he assumes, that the hurricane season will NOT affect the supply/demand/price of oil/gas NEXT fall.

It's one of the few things he can do.

The biggest problem is refinery capacity. Maybe fewer people will travel this summer, but we heard that would happen last summer and I don't think it did. If you drive 1000 miles on a family vacation, at 20 mpg that's 50 gallons. That just doesn't add enough to the cost to be a deal breaker.

This ethanol stuff peeves me too. Rather than subsidize that with tax dollars, just cut the taxes.

Using the reserves and hoping hurricanes don't disrupt supply.

Price of oil hasn't gone down signigicantly, for any length of time, so, freeup oil for the summer

Then in the fall, replace the used oil, with higher priced oil to get through the winter.

Just switching the problem from the summer to the winter.

response
Apr 25, 2006 5:05AM PDT

I didn't know "he?" did that.

But, if he did and the timing and situation was exactly the same, as these are, then "it would be my opinion"

It's the plan, not the person.

You should pay attention in class more

Yes he did do it and I thought was a ridiculous photo-op stunt, think the same of what GW is doing with it. Just too bad the majority of Americans don't understand how SMALL the reserve is and what it was intended to be used for. Otherwise The Slickster would have been laughed at and the idea for GW to do it wouldn't be there.

I wasn't in class, but finally there is something you and I agree on.

People want oil but they don't want refineries.

I thought that that didn't look right Wink
