winamp compatibility?

by unruhlee / November 19, 2005 1:40 PM PST

Does anybody know of an mp3 player that's compatible with the winamp mediaplayer? I guess there are none that are as compatible as ipods are with itunes, but I'm pretty used to winamp, and i'm looking for good deal.

Other considerations: it would be important for me to be able to (re)organize files and playlists on the mp3 player of my dreams. I've got a huge mp3 collection which will take me years to organize, and that's largely why I want one of these things.

I also would like to be able to record mp3s of live music. Any info on what the best quality mp3 recording mp3 players are? I have the impression that they might all be about the same in that regard (as long as they have the recording feature at all) - and that one might just have to get a better quality external mic to plug in to get better quality.

Lastly, I want to be able to hook the player into a stereo (hopefully car stereo as well as larger house stereos). I guess ipods can do this via a radio transmission, but most players do it through the headphone jack. This probably won't work with my car stereo unless I get some (expensive?) thing to hook it up with. But I guess I could sacrifice that if everything else was great.

I'm thinking about getting a Gmini 220. Any thoughts on that Vs. the iriver players?

Ok, thanks in advance for any help answering these questions?
