Win98se networking problem

Have compaq 1810 laptop,updated to 98se,now cannot get network cards to be reconized. Have netgear fa510 pcmcia
and belkin usb network cards. computer shows either in dev.mgr as being there, but when looking at network places, get msg.cannot browse network/no device available. cannot manualy change ip address, cursor will not allow writing in ip blocks. all worked fine prior to se upgrade, have reloaded both se upgrade and drivers for both cards many times.

That's the clue! That upgrade may not use DRIVERS for you motherboard in that laptop. You'll want to find a motherboard/usb/other driver package and install it.

Microsoft doesn't supply these drivers.

Bob, I guess I don't understand your reply. As I stated, I used the drivers suppled by the two board mfgs. If you could eloberate somewhat.

What about drivers for the laptop motherboard? Unless you use restore CDs its unlikely the machine's drivers were installed. You read this issue on usbman.com all the time.
