Win98SE keeps installing default monitor

Dec 1, 2003 2:01AM PST

Every time I boot up, Win98SE detects new hardware and adds a default monitor to device manager, even though the correct Delta monitor is already in device manager. If I remove it and reboot it comes back. The default monitor causes screen flicker when it is installed. I tried removing it in safe mode as well, but it keeps coming back. Also tried disabling "automatically detect plug & play monitors", no luck.

How about checking off that other box?

On my 98 box, I have another checkbox "not used in this hardware profile" or such. Sorry if the words are not exact since I'd have to boot that machine up.

Make sure you have the proper Inf file for your monitor

http://www.monitor-drivers.com/companies/295.htm

boot in safe mode, remove all monitors, reboot and let Windows install your default monitor. Right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced, monitor, change, next, display a list of all drivers in a specific location, next, have disk, copy files from (wherever your Inf file is).
