The secret could be that Windows 98 only supports up to 512 Mb. Remove half of the memory and see if that works.
Once it works, you can go into the General Tab of msconfig and use that to limit the memory to 512 Mb. Then - of you like - you can put in the other 512 Mb so you won't lose it. But it won't be functional at all.
Are you sure you can get drivers for Windows 98 for all the features offered by this mobo: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=k8n_neo2_platinum
Hopet his helps.

Hi,
I installed win98 se on a pc, but on restarting, the pc freezes at the startup screen, which states "starting windows for the first time". I have uninstalled and reinstalled the os 3 times but it always freezes at the same point! What am I doing wrong?
I have checked the forums but cannot see a similar problem.
