Win7 64 bit - Application installation takes forever

Apr 4, 2010 5:55AM PDT

I just installed TurboTax on a new Win7 64 bit machine (Quad Core 860 i7, 8 gigs Ram, etc). What should be a simple install took several hours.

Why is this?

What is it about Win7 that an install takes so long?

Ok that helps us see there is an install log. Now given how this installs and how TOXIC COMBINATIONS OF PROTECTION SOFTWARE can drag the install speed to near zero I can't fault Intuit on this one. Your post is not complete and I don't expect you to reveal what's installed for others to comment on.

But you can look in that install log and see if it tells why.

Win7 64 bit - Application installation takes forever

I did install TT 2009 & it seems to work (it immediately asked to & downloaded updates).

I have installed other programs since I got this machine and they work and some of my other "legacy" programs (Photoshop CS is an example) work. On the other hand Corel's PaintShop Pro would not work correctly.

I think that I have observed that program installs under Win7 64 bit take an inordinate amount of time. I didn't put a clock on it but the TT install was started before running the Formula1 race that recorded very early this morning and the install didn't complete under well over an hour later - somewhere in the region of 3 hours +/- !

Okay maybe the AV software (AVG 9.0.800) did it's job and scanned the install (and I should have thought of that) and that scan delayed things a bit but it seems to me that something else is delaying the install.

The MS Office (2007) didn't take long to install and surely it's a more complex install.

Is that Corel Paintshop Pro X?

The earlier versions are indeed incompatible from what I tried. So I upgraded.

Back to AVG. It's link scanner is known to dog some apps.

You may have found another combo that will be reported by others as time goes on.
