Resolved Question

Win7-32bit to 64

Dec 28, 2011 11:21PM PST

I am running the Win 7 32 bit on my computer now, can I just install the 64 bit over it or do I have to start from a black hard drive. If so will I have to re install all my programs or will they transfer without any problem? Sorry I could just stick the disk in and find out but I don't want to loose all my stuff on my hard drive.

That's a clean install, so you must reinstall all your programs (preferably the 64-bit version, if it exists).

It's a very good idea to copy all your stuff to an external hard drive first (and even from that drive to another one, just in case it fails and you lose everything). Stuff that already is on at least 2 of your regular backups can be excluded from that copy if you're in hurry.

Thanks, I'll have to wait on this since my dvd drive is now in op. It doesn't open even with the release button, oh well I guess it's time to upgrade a little, new DVD drive and new hard drive. Thanks.
