At our office we moved to W10 and not looking back. But we are programmers for the most part so agnostic to most OS changes. We even run Apple OS, Linux, Android and iOS. We view the OS as tools and for now with our clients running mostly W10 (yes we do have that factory software on Win XP!) we need to be on W10 so we know our apps are fine there.
-> Be careful with W7 on new CPUs. Microsoft will cause some folk to melt down as updates fail. That's in the news so I only note it here.
I try to refrain from arguing with people that love Windows 10. I notice however that many of these people do little with their computers other than the internet and some word processing. We are a production business archiving video and audio for numerous artists and I often start with an empty 2TB drive in the morning and have filled it by afternoon. We are mirroring drives, burning disks, encoding Video, Editing sound, Compiling programs and yes we also have web pages and distribute through the Cloud. So our work load is tremendous compared to the average user.
I try to give each MS OS a fair trial as I did with ME, Vista, and 8 each time returning to what I had previously used successfully. I have to get work done and when the OS is an obstacle limiting my production I pull my backup boot drive off the shelf and boot to whatever OS is best for the task. We have a large collection of 60gb SATA boot drives to choose from. I test a lot of software for OS compatability and I have boot drives for every MS OS from 98 on. After trying to use Win10 for over 6 month I can say for sure I would rather use ME. We were never able to get our network running correctly, the included video tools are slow, complicated and produce poor quality as compared to numerous third party programs. I don't need fingerprint recognition, or to talk with my computer all I need is a basic OS and please let third party developers create the programs. They do a much better job than MS at a more reasonable price.
Requesting HELP for an issue is laughable as you are delivered to an explanation of how Help works rather than information on the issue you are experiencing and in the end it is suggested that you contact your supervisor of which I have none. MS help has always been, to my mind, an unfinished work.
We just cancelled plans to purchase two new Rizen machines to avoid problems running Win7 as we need this OS for things we cannot do with 10.
Win10 contains so much self promotion, spyware, and data theft that I dont trust MS at all any more. In fact their “Strong Arm Methods” to force users to use 10 make me suspicious of virtually everything they do. Remember “just because your paranoid it doesn't mean your not being followed” (Berrigan). Despite numerous attempts to disable all of this I have never really felt confident that I had succeeded. I believe MS has an agenda and it is not in my best interest.
My Win10 SSD drive has been on the shelf now for several months and I cannot think of a single feature that I need it for. I know using it precludes me from doing so many things that work fine on Win7. Win7 and Sony Vegas are the ultimate audio video production tools with a total cost less than $100 per machine. BTW - Turn off the updates if you want your machine to continue working most updates are security patches to their browser which has never been very good anyhow (We use Chrome). Also this eliminates their nefarious attempts to install Win10.
