Question

Win10 Edge problem...

Jun 9, 2016 4:45PM PDT

Somehow my wifi's Windows 8.1 computer installed Win 10 WITHOUT her action (I know, that's what she tells me). She has avoided the Win 10 install option since it became available last year.

So, now after a month, the MS browser (Edge) has mostly stopped working. When she clicke on the Edge icon, the program loads, but then the screen locks up. The only way to close it is with the Task Manager.

Today I discovered that Edge WILL work IF I go into...
Setting/Accounts/Manage My MS Account.

Doing the above pulls up Edge in a mostly working form.

I'm wondering if I were to do a Restore to her computer...

Setting/Update and Security/Recovery/Reset, it would fix this problem? I've already gone up to the point of no return where it say something like "keep files" or "delete files and start a new installation. There are some other differences with her Win10 installation that are a little different from the 2 Win10 installations I have on 2 other computers so I'm thinking she may have not received a FULL Win10 installation.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this matter. I'm a little leery of going the "Restore" option if it might go bad with her then losing access to numerous Word and Excel files.

I'd just get Firefox or Chrome.

It's one of those browsers that doesn't work everywhere for me so I went to NINITE.COM to get Chrome and Firefox (reasons.)

Then in Chrome and Firefox I installed my usual Web Of Trust and Adblock+.

Why Ninite? Read http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

Then again you could try IE?

-> Before you do a thing, did you tell us there are no backups to those Word and Excel files?
