Win XP SP2 and Task Scheduler

I think it's pathetic that you can't use Task Scheduler without having to log on with a password.
Anyone figured a work around for this?

I DO NOT want to start using a password to log on.

do you have to enter a password?

I've just gone through the "Scheduled Tasks" wizard in Control Panel and haven't come across a password so far.

Are you logged on as an Administrator, or a User?

I'm having the same problem. Even when using the wizard, it requires you to enter a password for the user, when creating a new task. My account is an administrator account, but I did not supply it with a password when XP was set up. Whenever you try to create a task without entering a password, it will not start the task, and gives you an 'access denied' error.

You could simply create a new user with password (suggest new user with Admin privileges as some tasks require Admin permissions) then scheduling the task to run under that user account. Make sure to assign permissions to directories and files as needed for the account you assign a password to.

Since security seems to be a low priority in this situation (administrative account with no password) you can bypass the task scheduler & no password issue by opening Local Security Settings (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security Policy) & navigate to Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options and disable the setting "Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only." This procedure, of course, only applies to XP Pro; I don't believe XP Home has this level of policy editing.
