I tried to load WXP on a A7N8X-VM with PC3200 memory. The install froze at about the same place. Out came the manual for the board and in the manual it said, "PC3200 DDR is supported only when the motherboard is using an add-on VGA card. Visit www.asus.com to view a list of qualified PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM vendors." I took out the PC3200 memory and put in PC2700 memory. Behold! the WXP loaded without a hitch. I experimented and put the PC3200 memory back in and the installation ran without a hitch. I repeated the experiment three more times and got the same results.

Somehow the WXP did not like the timing situation with the PC3200 and the Asus board. Apparently Asus knew something was not right with that board and PC3200 memory. I am able to continue to run that board with PC3200 memory with the on board video aserted contrary to the warning in the ASUS manual. I still cannot get it to load WXP with PC3200 installed initially.

Perhaps you have something similar.
