win xp home media problems

Dell Inspiron 1501 winxp home . . Every time I sut laptop down and return, my audio device has to be re-installed to work . . wazzzup?

when did this start?

Have you you installed a program or two that caused this to happen?
Or, did this just start?
Have you tried System Restore to fix?

Installed MS Critical Update in Feb and that's when it started. Have tried Restore and that hasn't worked either. Tried newer driver update and that doesn't work at all. Have to use an older driver file and re-install that every time I re-boot to get the audio device to be recognized . . . sigmatel cdrw-dvd and internet videos . . System sounds work only until I re0install driver.

Did have Norton but uninstalled and audio driver still needs to be installed each time I reboot . .
