Win XP Control Panel View Thumbnails

My wife brought our laptop home after an extended trip and the Thumbnails in the Control Panel have no titles. If the View is changed to Tiles, the titles appear properly. There is obviously no real problem since the View can just be changed to Tiles, but I prefer to have everything work properly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Click Start, Run and type the following command and press Enter.

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_FillCache_RunDLL

Note

The command is case sensitive, so better copy and paste it from my message.

If this doesn't do the trick, use System Restore.

Worked like a charm.

How did you know that?

I figured out that if your problem it's not found by using search engines, that fix should be your answer Wink

I just switched a friends today. In the top left of the control panel, there is a choice of switching to the classic setup. took about 20 seconds

Actually the prior fix didn't work because I sat here and applied the "fix" to my desktop which had no problem!

Anyway, I found the following which works:

Go to a View which does show the names (Tiles in my case), hold the shift key down, and switch to the View which has no names (Thumbnails). Viola! the names appear.

I was going to give credit to the author of this tip at Computing.net but now can't find it again.
