Win a trip to CES in las Vegas

by acedtect-20196213851867054973637995818137 / October 19, 2006 9:34 AM PDT

The winners of this contest get airfare to Las Vegas, a hotel room and passes to CES and backstage passes to the CNET stage.

We have lots of folks who want to win, but it seems like people are having a hard time doing videos.

So I'm just saying, if you have any video at all. And you have any interest in a free trip to Las Vegas to hang with us, you might want to just upload that video at the link above.

I'm not even certain that audio with a still photo wouldn't qualify. But why not try? Montage? Screen capture of the visualizations on your audio player? You and your kitten playing Warcraft? Try it!

The passes and free trip are there for the winning.

DISCLAIMER: The desperate nature of Tom's plea for you to subnmit video in no way guarantees you will win. Entrants should consider why he would be so desperate for entries but not consider it a legal contract.

by nickswim / October 20, 2006 1:01 AM PDT

I'm going to do one.. but I have 2 ideas.. Either I can put them both into one video.. or I can submit 2 videos.

Can you even submit more than one video?

I would have entered if you could have flown me from Japan. But, the contest rules are for only people in the US.

Oh well. =P

Same for Canadians. No biggie, Vegas is a short jump for us, cheap cheap flights go right from my town here, but I would probably go alone. The GF may be a nerd, but she is in no way a geek.

QuickCam ok? Where is the form?
by ucffool / October 20, 2006 3:35 AM PDT

I just remembered that I have a free Logitech QuickCam sitting somewhere, I suppose I could use that to record something, and then to edit something together with a few graphics or transitions. I only hope it saves in a format that the contest uses.

It says in the rules that AVI is accepted, but does that include XviD? Rules need to be clearer. I'll use MS MPEG4 Avi if I can.

Finally, where is the form that is required for entry? All I can find is the 'UPLOAD VIDEO' links but nothing to the entry form mentioned in the rules. Thoughts?

Any format will work

As long as we can view it it's OK.

The upload video is the form as far as I know.

Should be approved soon (I hope). Hope you like my make-shift Toshiba SEDTV review.
You should laugh at the still-image. Happy

Canadian Shutout
by rustyholman / October 20, 2006 8:06 AM PDT

I'm assuming Canadians can't enter this contest because someone over there is still bitter over the fact that its not possible to see the hockey puck over a slingbox transmission.

Ah well, eh...

What do you mean I can't enter?

Void in Florida and New York and where otherwise prohibited by law???

I guess I must've missed the fine print on the site my first go-around. I'm from FL and had my video all planned out to shoot this weekend.

It involved a Mac/PC parody and talking about all the things I saw @ CES back in January that sites like C|net never covered. I had my video crew and cast all scheduled to shoot this weekend. And, it was going to be a winner.

Well, I put a video I made a while ago up for it. The home segment is a little long, but I think you'll find the desk segments are pretty fun. Here's hoping!

Where is the entry form?
by thetaiwansig / October 24, 2006 1:18 PM PDT

The rules read:

A completed entry consists of all of the following elements: (i) a completed entry form, (ii) a video that is at least one minute but no more than five minutes in length.

I see plenty of places to submit the video but no entry form? Is that the form you have to complete on the upload screen? Thanks and love the show!

(NT) (NT) Yep. That's the entry form I think

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
