General discussion

win 95 to win 98

Aug 16, 2005 3:36AM PDT

I have three computers running wi98 networked. It works great. Now I want to hook in my OLD HP Vectra. It was formerly owned by NASA or another Gov. agency. They donated to a school district. It is a fun webcrawler. It has win 95. Can it be hooked in?

Yes.

But have your Windows 95 CD or diskettes handy when you add or remove the TCIP protocol and then update it from Microsoft's web site.

Just my opinion, since it's an old company machine, I'd wipe and reinstall the OS proper for my needs rather than try to sort out why it doesn't work. In fact, why not Linux it?

Best of luck,

Bob

I wanted to find out the posibilities first. I have the win95 floppies. Several people said it could be done, others said no. So, I went to forum. Never been steered wrong here.
Would consider Linux except for the fact that all I have is a Lindows 4 CD, this machine is floppy only.
Thanks, will try. If I make it work that will be great. By the way, win95 is fresh install. This is an old 486DX4, runs at 100Mhz and has 35 megs of ram.

It can be done.

Just a bit tough on some. The key point is to determine what you are attempting to do. If just a Web browser, you need only the TCPIP protocol. Adding more protocols will muddy the path to the goal.

If just web access, if the machine has over 64 megabytes of RAM, try a KNOPPIX CD.
