win 8.1 no sound

hi I just installed windows 8.1 with all the latest drivers.
I am using a 2 monitor setup. one of them is using an HDMI cable.
and the sound is using this as the default device for audio. when I switch to speakers not only there is still no sound but also the flash videos start playing in slowmo.

can someone please guide me or give me a clue on what to do?
thank you!

Yeah, but the thing is that I was using it before and it was doing okayish.. with win 7.0.

then update to win 8 and had this issue.

The list looked grim with Windows 8.x

Go back to the OS that worked. Weird OS support list. Very short on the driver list. Very strange.
